Hattiesburg High School has a rich tradition of excellence in speech and theatre activities. Theatre students, affiliated with the International Society of Thespians, stage three major productions each season as practical training for aspiring actors, directors, stage managers and designers. Under the umbrella of The National Forensic League, activities such as Student Congress, Mock Trial, television production, and HHS' own Hub City Classic Invitational Debate Tournament help prepare students for careers in public service or law. As annual contenders for the state title, the debate team has built a national reputation for excellence, finishing sweepstakes winners at the Wake Forest Invitational and second in the country at the 1991 national finals. Through a myriad of communications experiences, Hattiesburg High School Forensics supports the premise that activities are the other side of education.
